About the Foundation
The Ammonia Refrigeration Foundation (ARF) is a non-profit research and education foundation organized by members of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) to promote educational and scientific projects related to industrial refrigeration and the use of ammonia and other natural refrigerants.
The goal of the Foundation is to support research and educational efforts in industrial refrigeration, particularly in the area of ammonia and natural refrigerants. Some of the ways the Foundation is accomplishing its goals are:
- Creating and funding scholarship programs as well as educational curriculum development. Scholarships have already been awarded at the University of Wisconsin, Erie Technical College and Louisiana Technical College.
- Funding industry-wide and specific product or application related research that creates new service and/or maintenance standards, seeks new product or application development or demonstrates a new technology. Research has been completed on Safety Relief Valve testing and Ammonia release mitigation risk analysis.
- Recognizing outstanding contributors to the industrial refrigeration profession.
The seven member Board of Directors of ARF is comprised of the IIAR Immediate Past Chair who serves as the Foundation’s Chair, the IIAR Current Chair who serves as the Foundation’s Secretary, one current IIAR appointed board member, two members of the ARF Board of Trustees, the Chair of the IIAR Research Committee and the Chair of the IIAR Education Committee.
ARF is a 501(c)(3) foundation, created with an endowment from IIAR. Individuals, manufacturers, contractors and end-users of refrigeration are encouraged to participate in the important work of the Foundation either through tax-deductible donations that would further the legacy of our industry or through proposals for educational and research programs for the organization to consider for funding.
